FIVE QUESTIONS TO CHALLENGE YOUR FAITH

Are you finding it hard to be an open Christian in today's world?

Do you wish you were able to attract more people to Christ?

Are you shy or hesitant about sharing your faith with others?

Do you feel that you aren't good enough or don't know enough about your faith to share it?

Are you just a "Sunday" Catholic - does weekly Mass fail to really influence the rest of your week?

If your answer is YES to any of these questions

Cursillo can help you

By following Christ, we CAN change our world.  We in the Cursillo Movement believe that those who really live, with a lively faith and loving heart, attract others with whom we live, work and socialise.

"It is by your love for one another that everyone will recognise you as my disciples."   John 13:35

A Wee Course in Christianity

The essence of Cursillo is demonstrated on a weekend course (the word "Cursillo" means "a short course").  Cursillo offers a way to grow in our Catholic faith through prayer and formation so that we may share it with others.  It is neither an intensive academic course or catechesis, but an opportunity to explore and experience what the Gospel and the Church offers as help for our Christian growth in our relationship with the Trinity and those with whom we live.

Church Approval

Appointing Saint Paul as official patron of Cursillo, Pope Paul VI gave his approval to the Movement in 1966.  He said, “This method of Christian teaching, (Cursillo) .. has produced abundant fruit - Christian renewal of family life, vitalisation of parishes, faithful observance of duties, in private as well as public".

The Cursillo Movement which was introduced into the Diocese of Aberdeen by Bishop Conti in 1998, and continues to develop with the approval and support of the Rt Rev Peter Moran, the Bishop of Aberdeen.

The “Wee Course”

The "Wee Course" consists of a 3-day residential course at Pluscarden Abbey beginning on Friday evening at 7.00 p.m. and ends on Monday evening at 6.00 p.m.  Single bedroom accommodation with bedding and towels is provided for participants.  All meals are included, with plenty of light refreshments available throughout the three days.

We come together in Christian community, listening to and discussing topics presented by a Cursillo team of laity and clergy.

The topics cover themes such as ideals, grace, faith, laity in the Church, the Sacraments, leadership, what we mean by Christian witness, and how the Cursillo can help us on our Christian journey of faith.  We have an opportunity to pray together and Mass is celebrated each day.  There are times for reflection, private and communal prayers, and an opportunity to celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

Who Will be There?

The Monastery set aside their extensive facilities for the use of the Cursillo. The participants are people just like you - people of all ages, backgrounds and ways of life.  We are all people working hard to be Christians in our everyday lives.  All YOU need is openness, and a readiness to be honest with yourself.

What Happens After the Wee Course?

After the "Wee Course" you are invited to renew your Christian commitment and provide friendship and support to other Christians in your area.  Cursillo offers:

·         Small local groups meeting regularly to talk about successes and failure in living day-to-day as a Christian.  They share insights gained through prayer, learning and personal experience.

·         A monthly gathering of local groups to encourage and inspire each other.

·         Various short follow-up courses and spiritual direction.
